Director of Product Marketing
Youth Radio, Oakland, CA
Job Description:
Youth Radio, an award-winning converged production company, seeks a Director of Product Marketing to launch, maintain, and drive Youth Radio’s online content distribution business, expanding web audiences and partnerships.
As part of a team, the DPM will draw on their top-tier technical and media business skills, leading development and execution of: an online distribution plan for teen-produced audio, video, and print stories, as well as music; a web partnership strategy; marketing for Youth Radio Online.
Responsibilities:
· Works closely with senior editorial staff to identify and cultivate new online content partners and editorial products.
· Works with Youth Radio production team to create, design and define innovative strategy for Youth Radio’s online content distribution.
· Plans, researches, and produces converged content distribution that incorporates audio slideshows, videos, and blogs; assigns, edits, packages, and distributes teen-produced radio features, podcasts, blogs, vlogs, and music & talk programming from iTunes radio station. Responsible for daily editorial and design needs for youth-produced content on youthradio.org.
· Manages production of news and other editorial graphics, widgets, and interactive storytelling applications, including information graphics, charts, illustrations and maps.
· Fluent in Spanish a plus.

Field Producer
Youth Radio, Los Angeles, CA
Job Description:
Youth Radio is seeking an experienced field producer for our Los Angeles bureau. This position requires working closely with a team of young reporters on production for local and national radio and multi-media outlets. Candidates should have an established track record working in broadcast journalism on a national level and the ability to work with diverse youth. This position is based out of National Public Radio’s Los Angeles offices in Culver City.
Responsibilities:
– Works closely with Youth Radio LA Bureau Chief to develop both local and national programming out of LA.
– Involved in all levels of multi-media production with youth correspondents including: developing story pitches, field recording, scripting, and post production.
– Co-teaches Youth Radio LA multi-media classes with Outreach Producer as needed.
– Delivers commentaries and features for local and national broadcast and multi-media distribution with editorial oversight from Los Angeles Bureau Chief, and National Network Senior Producer in Oakland.
Qualifications:
· Established track record working in broadcast journalism on a national level, preferably in public radio
· Proven ability to work with youth, particularly at-risk youth
· Proven ability to work with youth, particularly at-risk youth
· Strong editing and writing skills
· Extensive field recording and post production/audio editing experience
· Working knowledge of multi-media production techniques
· Training/teaching experience recommended, but not required

Bureau Chief
Youth Radio, Los Angeles, CA
Job Description:
Youth Radio is seeking an energetic and talented Bureau Chief for our Los Angeles office who will oversee production and staffing. This position is a management role, requiring leadership of a team of staff dedicated to production, training, and college bound support. Candidates should have an established track record working on national productions for public radio and the ability to work with diverse youth. This position is based out of National Public Radio’s Los Angeles offices in Culver City.
Responsibilities:
– Supervise Youth Radio LA staffing, coordinating activities in multi-media training, production (Spanish and English), and college bound/academic support.
– Work closely with Youth Radio Oakland staff to meet strategic goals of the organization, and develop national programming out of Los Angeles.
– Maintain relationships with Youth Radio LA Advisory Board and strategic partners such as National Public Radio.
– Coordinate strategic partnerships with LA-based youth organizations.
– Develop new funders and outlets.
– Write narratives for grant proposals and funding reports as needed.
Qualifications:
· 2-3 years broadcast journalism experience
· Established track record working on national productions for public radio
· Proven ability to work with youth, particularly at-risk youth
· Management experience recommended
· Fluency in Spanish
· Training/teaching experience recommended, but not required
· Strong communications skills, and the ability to forge strategic partnerships

Science Producer
Youth Radio, Oakland, CA
Job Description:
Youth Radio, a Peabody Award-winning youth development and youth media organization based in Berkeley, CA, is seeking a Science Producer. Youth Radio's commitment to supporting diversity is a key part of its mission, and 80% of our students are low income and/or youth of color.
Responsibilities:
· Under the supervision of the News Director, the Science Producer will:
– Lead Youth Radio’s Science Desk, training youth reporters in: the fundamentals of identifying compelling science story topics, consultation and interviews with sources and experts, and producing highly researched science and technology stories.
– With student reporters, produce multimedia presentations of Science Desk stories for local and web outlets with possible extended use in classrooms.
– Pitch youth reporter produced stories and commentaries to local and national outlets as needed.
– Work with students to identify Youth Radio Science Desk advisors.
– Consult with Youth Radio Science Desk advisors to plan science reporting workshops for students, and to help students identify research sources/reporting topics.
Qualifications:
· Established track record working on the national level in public radio.
· Background in science or science reporting.
· Proven ability to work with youth, particularly at-risk youth.
· Strong research, narrative writing and editing skills.
· Knowledge of audio and studio equipment, including ProTools.
· Multimedia capability preferred.
Salary: $55k, Full-time with benefits. Salary commensurate with experience.
