Review: The Ring 2
"This movie was way better than the first Ring...It was scarier and even a little funny."

I got to AMC Theater in Emeryville at 5:30 for the premiere of The Ring 2, but the movie didn’t start until 7:30. The line wasn’t even set up yet, so my friend and I decided to walk around. We saw that KMEL and Cingular were there and giving away free stuff. We both got two CDs, one of which hasn’t even come out in stores yet. We also got a couple of towels, a picture of ourselves, and a chance to get tickets to the Fillmore. I guess we got lucky. Around 6:15 the lines were set up, and by 7:05 they let us in. I gave the ticket-collector my pass and came to find out that I was V.I.P. and could have gone in earlier, but I wasn’t really tripping because I got good seats.
The Ring 2 is about Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts) and her son, Aidan (David Dorfman), who were living a good life in Seattle until a weird tape showed up. This sequel starts six months after the horrifying events happened to Rachel and Aidan in the first movie, The Ring. In The Ring, Rachel, a news reporter, investigates the death of her niece. Through her investigation, Rachel found out that her niece died from watching a tape containing images of weird things and of Samara, a young girl who was killed by her mom. Seven days after viewing the tape, Samara comes out of the TV and haunts the people who watched the tape. In the first Ring, Rachel thought she defeated Samara. So, The Ring 2 begins with Rachel moving into a new house in Astoria, Oregon with her son to forget about the past.
Unlike most sequels, this movie was way better than the first Ring. It was scarier and even a little funny. The special effects were really good- they caught people off guard because they were very realistic. In the crowd, most of the people in the back said it wasn’t scary and they thought they wasted their time, but I heard people back there screaming. The people in front of me were clapping and screaming throughout the movie- I think they liked it.
If you guys could’ve seen me in the movie theater y’all would have laughed because I was holding on to my friend like I was about to die. Later that night, when I had to walk down dark streets to get home, I just couldn’t stop thinking about that movie. I was just thinking that someone was going to come out and get me, like ghosts or something-- watching this movie really had me thinking about ghosts and whether or not they exist. I do believe in ghosts. I think they just walk around the earth as if they were people, trying to live in a world next to us. Most of the time, they are just trying to do their own thing, but if people get in their way, ghosts can kill them. I remember this one time when I was in my room with my door closed when this breeze just passed by me- when that happens, I think ghost are walking by.
The Ring 2 deserves two thumbs up.
