Freak Dancing

"Parents have to realize that our generation is different from theirs."

By Derek Hampton

Ok parents, really. What's the problem with freak dancing?

Most parents don't want to accept that their teens are out at parties and clubs getting closer to each other than they did as teenagers. Back in the day, slow dancing was the thing to do, but nowadays it's freak dancing.

I understand that most parents don't want their daughters grinding on anything but the wall, and standing around instead of dancing, but times have changed. Parents have to realize that our generation is different from theirs.

Most parents think that dancing in our generation is all freak dancing- it's not. Today's teens do a lot of dances that adults used to do, but with a twist. Adults had the electric slide, the funky chicken, and pop locking. Teens have the cha-cha slide, the St Louis chicken dance, and pop locking still exists.

Many parents see freak dancing as the cause of wild behavior among teens in clubs. I will admit, the atmosphere can sometimes get a little out of hand, but this is mainly due to fights. Most fights happen because of dumb reasons like jealousy, people not liking each other, or just a simple step on the shoe.

Some teens don't realize that fights can affect the way parents feel about their kids going to clubs or parties in the future. Fortunately most teens can just go to the club and have a good time. But as the adults say, "one bad apple can spoil the whole bunch."
