For many teens, dealing with death in the family is a very painful experience. Ashley Hayes describes how she uses the technology to look back and remember those who have passed on.
Death is like a little voice in the back of my head that pops up periodically. However, when I hear about tragic accidents or massive killings, that little voice in the back of my head becomes loud.
Contemplating mortality always leaves me with more questions than answers, and an overwhelming sense of uncertainty. Though I know I will die someday, as everyone will, the idea of an untimely death frightens me. While I continue to lament the loss of my maternal grandmother, it gives me and my family a sense of comfort to be able to pop in a video tape and relive moments of our last Christmas with her.
VHS is by no means a substitute for the real thing. However, it does serve as a medium for connecting with your loved ones after death. We are born to die – what a paradox. Still, we must appreciate the precious little time we have.
