Football

"I’m not a fan, I’m a player."

Listen to this Commentary!

By Josh Clemmons

At school, my friends are always chatting and analyzing sports, especially football. All the fellas get into it, except me.

I’m Josh Clemmons with a commentary from Youth Radio.

Any time we chill out in front of my house, someone always sparks up a conversation about stats, their favorite players and teams, and who’s going to beat who. I do feel like I’m missing out on male bonding, but then I think about the time it takes to watch a game. I like to play sports, but I just do not have the patience to sit for three hours. I’ve never had that kind of love for sports.

My sports loving friends always crack jokes about me. But I stand up for myself and tell them that I’m not a fan, I’m a player. Believe me, I’ve tried to watch a whole game. But I can’t get myself to last through two quarters of a football game. It’s a lost cause. I can never hold on and keep focus without becoming bored to death. But I’ll go outside and play a game any day.

Some people take sports too seriously. And look at how they suffer when their favorite team loses. I’ll never understand why watching a game for some people is just as much fun as playing.

For Youth Radio, I’m Joshua Clemmons.
