Remix Your Life: Weekly Recap

  Tuesday, Remix Your Life focused on deception as the topic of the week. We took a look at a Bay area Classic, “Dusted and Disgusted,” by E-40, Spice-1, Richie Rich, Mac Mall and Tupac Shakur. We developed our student-made weekly prompts from this song. Wednesday, we took a look at internal rhyme and Compound rhyme. Internal Rhyme: “A rhyme involving a word in the middle of a line and another at the end of the line or in the middle of the next.” Compound Rhyme: “In rapping and poetry, multisyllabic rhymes are rhymes that contain two or more syllables.”(Google Definitions) We analyzed a few cool lines, “wait for the po-po shift to change, ghetto shootin' range/revenge on the r-uh-rebound, war games…,” and “Where’s my mother freakin' chrome, only jealous people roamin/It’s a war zone but I’m a man so with gun in my hand/I’m on my way to see this, bro you know the freakin plan…” The next day, we challenged Remix to take it from the page to the stage to work on integrating movement while performing. Similar and connected to using their space effectively; different from it in the sense that using your space effectively could mean sitting completely still, while integrating movement can only go one way, (with motion). To cap the week off, we put on the monthly First Friday showcase called “Bites and Beats,” where youth who’ve participated enough in the program are able to curate and/or perform in their own show. This particular “Bites and Beats” was an uphill turn. ;-)
